Following the success of the outdoor exhibition curated by Marco Tonelli featuring works by renowned American sculptor Mark di Suvero in 2024, the Beverly Pepper Projects Foundation returns to Todi in 2026 with the same exhibition format. This year, the Foundation has invited Alicja Kwade (Katowice, Poland, 1979), one of the most internationally acclaimed contemporary artists.
Thanks to the renewed collaboration with the Municipality of Todi, the initiative continues its mission of bringing leading figures in contemporary art to the Umbrian town, fostering a direct encounter between artworks and visitors through prestigious installations in the city’s public spaces.
Kwade has also designed the official poster for the 40th edition of the Todi Festival. On 28 August, she will unveil Paraposition in Piazza del Popolo, a monumental installation measuring approximately 6 metres in height and 7 metres in width. Composed of intertwined steel beams supporting large suspended boulders, the work features a chair placed beneath the floating rocks, inviting the public to engage with the installation and, above all, to enter a surreal dimension that challenges the scientific principles of weight, gravity, fragility, and perception.
Later that same day, the programme will continue at the Sala delle Pietre with the opening of Kwade’s solo exhibition, curated by Marco Tonelli. Through an elegant display of installations, wall-based works, and sound pieces, the exhibition explores and questions the concept of Time. It offers insight into Kwade’s artistic research, which seeks to challenge established philosophical and mathematical concepts, as well as the very nature of reality.
